My Geico rates just went up by 23% in Virginia even though I have a clean driving record. I’m wondering if this is normal or if I should really shop around for other options. What do you pay and what kind of coverage do you have? Any advice is appreciated.
I used to think my $229 per month in California for minimum 15/30k coverage, a $500 comp deductible, and a $1k collision deductible on my 2022 Honda was high, but I’m 23 with only 5 years of driving experience, and they say California rates are catching up after being artificially low.
I’m paying $493 per month for four paid-off cars in Connecticut — two with full collision coverage, comprehensive, and roadside assistance, and the other two with liability only, plus affiliated homeowners and umbrella policies. We have 3 drivers with clean driving records, so your 23% increase seems significant.
I switched from Geico to Progressive last year and saved a few hundred dollars every six months after Geico jacked up my policy a lot. It sounds like you should definitely get quotes from other companies, as many others have also experienced Geico rate increases.
I had State Farm for over 30 years, had more in claims than I paid them, and they always paid replacement costs without arguing or low-balling me. While others in this thread say State Farm’s claims service is the worst and takes 2-3 weeks to respond, my experience has been different, so maybe it depends on the local office.
