I signed up with Lemonade because their quote for 90% reimbursement with a $20,000 annual limit was only $21.48 a month for my 18-month-old Yorkie. This seemed much better than other options like Trupanion, which was much more expensive. However, after reading all these negative experiences, I’m now worried if this price is truly sustainable or if they’ll find ways to deny claims later on.

I had a positive experience with Lemonade for my Bernese Mountain Dog who was hospitalized twice for pneumonia. We’ve been reimbursed over $10,000 so far, and the longest it took to get the money was three days. This is the third pet insurance company I’ve used, and Lemonade has been the easiest to work with. So, it seems some people do have good outcomes with them.

Lemonade tried to claim my cat’s recent ear infection was pre-existing because she had one many months ago. This seems ridiculous, like human insurance denying a doctor’s visit for a new cold because you had one last year. They classify any past condition, even if resolved, as pre-existing, making it seem like they’ll “reject truly anything”.

My premiums with Lemonade just skyrocketed from around $300 to $1000 per year per dog, and we haven’t even filed a single claim in the past year. It feels like they arbitrarily increase rates, and I’m definitely looking to move my home insurance away from them too because of this.

I had Lemonade for almost a year, and they refused to cover anything, always finding a way to link it to a “pre-existing condition”. They even said my dog’s current issues were related to diarrhea he had a year before I even signed up with them. It felt like a complete waste of money.
