Hey everyone, I just got an adorable 10-week-old Golden Retriever puppy and I’m trying to decide if I should get pet insurance right away. It seems like there are so many options out there, like Spot, Fetch, Trupanion, Lemonade, Healthy Paws, Pets Best, and Embrace. I’m a bit overwhelmed and wondering what your experiences have been. Is pet insurance really worth the cost, especially for a young, healthy puppy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got Lemonade for my puppy, and so far, it’s been great. The app is super easy to use, and the signup was quick. Even though I haven’t had any major claims yet, it gives me peace of mind knowing that if something big happens, like the $650 tumor removal my friend’s dog had, I’ll be covered. My plan started at about $32 a month and has gone up to $50 a month as my dog got older.

I’ve had Trupanion for my dog, and while it’s often among the highest in terms of quotes I’ve seen, it has an excellent reputation with comprehensive coverage. When my dog needed neurosurgery that cost around $13,000, I saw Trupanion cover almost all of it, with the owner only paying a couple of hundred. For me, that potential for covering really big expenses makes it worth the higher premium.

I used Lemonade for my Husky mix and pay $700 a year for 90/10 coverage, which includes checkups. When we had an emergency scare, they were amazing with quick refunds and an easy-to-use app. Because of my positive experience with their fast claim reimbursement, I highly recommend them.

I originally had Embrace and thought it was a total scam because they refused to pay out on three claims. After switching to Trupanion through Chewy, I’ve been much more satisfied. They’re quick to respond to claims, with a decision made within two days for my first claim, and the money was directly deposited. Even though it’s a bit pricier, it’s worth it to me if they actually pay when needed.
