Thinking of switching to Root Insurance – is it worth it?

I’m really tempted by Root Insurance because their initial quote is significantly lower than what I’m currently paying with a traditional insurer. They say good drivers can save a lot through their app-based tracking. However, I’ve seen some worrying reviews about rates going up after the initial “test drive” period and difficulties with claims. For those of you who have tried Root, what was your experience? Did your rates stay low, and how was their service when you needed it?

I was offered Root when buying my car through Carvana, and while it seemed simple to sign up, the quote they gave me was actually more expensive by $100 a month compared to sticking with my Progressive policy. Before my Carvana delivery, I ended up switching both my cars to Allstate and saved that much.

During my order process with Carvana, Root was offered to me, but I didn’t accept because I already had better rates with my existing insurance provider.

Don’t go with Root! My rate steadily increased over about a year and a half. It started at $170, then went up to $208, and finally reached $268. I switched to Progressive and got similar coverage for only $119 per month, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend Root.

When I tried Root, they gave me a low quote, but I’m worried about their claims service. I saw someone mention that Progressive might offer a lower rate if you adjust coverages or add discounts. Root, on the other hand, seems to have a reputation for terrible claims handling.
